FUTURE YEAR SCAQMD INVENTORIES
Project No. A-56
Leaders: A. M. Dunker
R. S. MacArthur
Scope and Objective
The objective of this project is to examine the
weekday/weekend effect on ozone for future years in the SCAQMD.
Current Status and Future Program
This was a new project
start in 2005. In CRC Project A-36, the weekday/weekend ozone changes in 1987,
1997, and 2010 were modeled. However, the results for 2010 had a high degree of
uncertainty and, therefore, were not included in the final journal article (JAWMA).
This project revisited the work for projected inventories for 2010, and some
diagnostic simulations to understand the results. Since the 2003 Air Quality
Modeling Plan for SCAQMD was released, it was possible to obtain the 2010
weekday emissions projected by SCAQMD and CARB. The weekend emissions for 2010
were then updated based on activity studies performed in southern California.
With these data in hand, new weekday/weekend simulations for 2010 were conducted
and diagnostic analyses were performed to understand the results. ENVIRON
completed Tasks 1-3, yielding a modeling plan which was approved by the
committee. The modeling plan was implemented and included CAMx runs with
meteorology/chemistry combinations of MM5/CB4, SJSU-MM5/SAPRC, and CALMET/CB4.
Two sensitivity
cases were selected for modeling by the committee. These are: (1) move the
location of the hypothetical weekend forward by one day and (2) reduce the 2010
base emissions to match the Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP) control plan of
75% and 53% reductions of reactive organic gas (ROG) and NOx,
respectively. The second sensitivity case represents further reductions beyond
what had been selected for evaluation in the base project. The Final Report is
now completed, and a journal article is planned for publication.
